The Outside Art Adventure Weekend at Wades Point includes the workshops listed below on Saturday, and a Catering and Critique Program on Sunday morning. A local Studio Tour may be added to the itinerary on Friday night for an additional $50 per person. You may also request a Friday evening art workshop for an additional $100 per person. 9:00 - 11:00 AM Sumi-e Seascapes
Learn how to meditate and relax while painting the “chi” of the nature around you, as the Buddhist monks did a thousand years ago. This class will teach the traditional meditative eastern approach and style to nature and seascape painting. Participants will learn about traditional eastern painting media, such as the bamboo brush, sumi-e ink, rice paper and suzuri inkwell. There will be lots of opportunities to connect to the spirit of nature while create beautiful monochromatic nature scenes and seascapes. Location: Wades Point Inn lawn.
11:00 - 11:20 AM Break and Mini-Critique
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Wildlife and Nature Sketching
Learn about the rich variety of animals of the Chesapeake region through wildlife sketching. Gesture, contour, shape, values, hatching, blocking and other techniques that sketch artists use when rendering wildlife will be demonstrated. Sketching paper and pencils provided. Transportation not provided for off-site choices. Please see Innkeeper for maps. Location: Wades Point Fields and woodlands.
12:30 - 2:00 PM Lunch Break
A good amount of time is provided in order for participants to visit St. Michael’s fine dining establishments. Reservations are highly encouraged. Meals are not included or provided by Outside Art Adventures or Wades Point unless otherwise indicated.
2:00 - 5:00 PM Pastel Painting at the Pier
Explore the pleasantries of pastel painting while absorbing the beauty and breezes of the Chesapeake and its tributaries. Master art educator and local artist, Dawn Malosh, will show you how to compose a painting, as well as use pastel techniques, the elements of art and your own style. Leave this class with a self-composed original memoir of your experience on the bay! Location: Wades Point, Claiborne Pier, or The Chesapeake Maritime Museum Pier, depending on availability.

5:30 - 7:00 PM Optional Creativity, Color and Kayaks
(Additional $100 per person)
Some of the most incredible natural scenery of the Eastern Shore can only be seen by the water. While touring the most panoramically inspiring locations on the bay in the quiet serenity of a kayak, you will learn how to capture your nature experience using the color, creativity and perspective techniques taught in this class. Kayaks and materials provided. Number of participants may be limited and subject to a first-come, first serve basis. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to participate in this workshop. This activity is subject to availability and weather. Location: Wades Point.

9:00 – 11:00 AM Catering and Critique
Enjoy a scrumptious buffet-style meal at or near the convenient location of your residing Inn or B&B while revering the creations of the weekend in a gentle critique and salon discussion about the aesthetics of art. Facilitated by the instructor, who is a local artist, master art educator and art business owner. Additional local artists may be invited to participate upon request and subject to availability. Special menu needs must be arranged individually with the caterer 4 days prior. Alcoholic beverages are not included in the price.
Additional Options
For an additional fee of $50, you may schedule a Friday evening Studio Tour. (subject to availability).
Studio Tour- The Eastern Shore’s natural beauty and charm has been a muse for many artists. See how artists of the area make their creations by visiting their studios. This inspirational tour includes a small presentation and question and answer session by the artists. Tours are subject to availability of artists. Group transportation provided except when a studio is in walking distance. Available on Friday evening for an additional $50 per person.
