FALL CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
 

 

Nature and Garden Tiles  

Class Times:  September 5, 12, &  24,*  Sundays 1-4pm

Price: $100 or $85 for members of Atkins Arboretum

Location: Atkins Arboretum

 

Workshop participants will learn how to make a variety of nature and garden tiles from scratch in this exciting workshop that uses Atkins Arboretum’s meadows, wetlands, meadows and gardens for inspiration. Composition, form, embossing, scoring, additive, subtractive, texturizing, and cut-out and techniques will be taught while each participant makes their own ceramic nature tiles. Taught by local artist, Dawn Malosh who owns Aesthetic Alternatives, an art company that sells a one-of-a-kind ceramic tiles and art.  Firing and final clear glazing provided.

Sumi-e Painting in the Arboretum

Class Times:  Monday, September 25, 1-4 pm

Location: Atkins Arboretum Classroom and Grounds

Price: $40 or $35 for members of Atkins Arboretum

 

Learn how to meditate and relax while painting the “chi” of the nature, as the Buddhist monks called the Chan did a thousand years ago. This class will teach the traditional meditative eastern approach and style to nature and seascape painting. Participants will learn about traditional eastern painting media, such as the bamboo brush, sumi-e ink, rice paper and suzuri inkwell. There will be lots of opportunities to connect to the spirit of nature while creating beautiful monochromatic nature scenes and landscapes inspired by the beautiful gardens at Atkins Arboretum.

Plein Air Painting in the Arboretum

Class Times: Saturday, October 23, 10am-4 pm

Location: Atkins Arboretum Classroom and Grounds

Price: $90 or $75 for members of Atkins Arboretum

 

Learn how to capture the beauty of nature’s changing fall colors on canvas under the guidance of a local art educator and artist.  Participants in this class will learn about composition, color, basic acrylic painting techniques and the joy of “plein air” painting while composing their own original rendition of the Arboretum in its fall splendor. Light buffet-styled lunch provided.

ONGOING ART ADVENTURES FOR ADULTS
 

We offer inspiring outdoor art lessons, workshops and classes for all levels at beautiful outdoor locations throughout the Eastern Shore.  Outside Art Lessons encourage students to study, discover and communicate their individual perceptions of nature in a relaxed, informative and nurturing environment.  Students have opportunities to create with varied media and styles, learn professional art elements and techniques and creatively express themselves while absorbing the beauty and messages of nature. Outside Art Programs incorporate environmental and "eco-tour" components that provide participants with valuable knowledge about the plants, animals and natural features of the Chesapeake Bay region. Natures Wonders in Watercolor

Discover the beauty of nature in the Eastern Shore as you capture it in watercolors! While viewing some of the most picturesque natural beauty of the area, twenty year master art educator and local artist, Dawn Malosh will introduce you to professional watercolor and compositional techniques so that you may create your own watercolor memoir of nature’s wonders.

 

Sunset Seascapes

Come and see the best sunset views of the Chesapeake through the eyes of an artist! This fun outside art workshop will teach participants from all artistic levels how to "see like an artist," compose a painting, work with colors and use professional acrylic painting techniques to create their own original sunset seascape painting. Taught by a master art educator and local artist.

 

Sunset Seascapes: A Workshop on the Water

Time: 4 hours. Starting 3 hours before sunset. Call for availability.

There is nothing more inspiring than watching the sunset while on the water, especially on the Chesapeake! This unique workshop on the water will teach participants composition, professional watercolor techniques, color theory, water rendering techniques and much more. All participants will leave with a meaningful memoir of a stunning sunset on the bay.

 

Pastel Painting at the Pier

Time: 3 hours. TBD or Call to schedule!

Location: St. Michaels Pier, The Chesapeake Maritime Museum Pier and others

Price: $99 per person, materials provided.

 

Explore the pleasantries of pastel painting while absorbing the beauty and breezes of the Chesapeake and its tributaries. Master art educator and local artist, Dawn Malosh, will show you how to compose a painting, as well as use pastel techniques, the elements of art and your own style. Leave this class with a self-composed original memoir of your experience on the bay!

Bird Sketching

Location: Pickering Creek Audubon or Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

Price: $80 per person, paper and other materials provided

 

Discover the incredible variety and beauty of birds of the Chesapeake region in the manner of the famous ornithologist and wildlife artist, John James Audubon.  At one of the most beautiful Audubon centers in the country, participants in this class will learn gesture, contour, shape, coloring, blocking and many other techniques that sketch artists use when rendering wildlife. Sketching paper and pencils provided.

 

 

Creativity Cruise on the Chesapeake; an Eco-Art Boat Tour

Time: 4 hours. TBD or Call for availability.

Location: Leaving from St. Michael’s

Let the boat be your art studio and the bay your inspiration in the phenomenal four hour eco-art tour. Participants will have opportunities to observe and learn about the Chesapeake, its tributaries and the diverse wildlife that depend on the bay.  Local art and environmental educator and artist, Dawn Malosh will highlight artistic perspective, composition, sketching techniques and a variety of color media techniques in this unique opportunity to let your creativity flow like the waters of the Chesapeake!

 

 

Wildlife and Nature Sketching

Time: 3 hours. TBD or Call to schedule!

Location: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (Also available at Pickering Creek Audubon)

Price: $80 per person, paper and other materials provided

 

Learn about the animals of the Chesapeake region through wildlife sketching at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.  Known for its captivating natural beauty, the Refuge includes over 25,000 acres, composed mainly of rich tidal marsh characterized by fluctuating water levels and varying salinity. Blackwater is also a haven for several troubled species including the American bald eagle, the endangered Delmarva fox squirrel, and the migrant peregrine falcon. Participants in this class will learn gesture, contour, shape, coloring, values, hatching, blocking and many other techniques that sketch artists use when rendering wildlife. Sketching paper and pencils provided.

 

 

Creativity, Color and Kayaks

Time: 4 hours. TBD or Call for availabily!

The most incredible natural scenery of the Eastern Shore can only be seen by the water. While touring the most panoramically inspiring locations on the bay in the quiet serenity of a kayak, you will learn how to capture your nature experience using the color, creativity and perspective techniques taught in this class.

 

 

Catering and Critique ( add-on option)

Enjoy a scrumptious buffet-style meal at or near your workshop while revering your art creations in a gentle critique and salon discussion about the aesthetics of art. Facilitated by the instructor, who is a local artist, master art educator and art business owner. Additional local artists may be invited to participate upon request and subject to availability. Special menu needs must be arranged individually with the caterer 4 days prior. Alcoholic beverages are not included in the price.          

 

 

Policies

 

Reservations required for all workshops by calling 410 212-9320. A half-down non-refundable deposit for the entire party is required in order to secure a workshop date. Workshop reservations will not be held without this deposit.

All workshop times, locations and rates are subject to change and/or cancellation. Most workshops require at least two participants and boating workshops require at least four participants in order to be held. In the event that Outside Art Adventures cancels a workshop on its own volition, registrants will have the option of a refund or credit for a future workshops. Any cancellations on the part of students/registrants are non-refundable and non-transferrable. It is the responsibility of the registrants to be present at the workshop’s starting location on time. Since Outside Art is a mobile activity, workshop participants may not be able to find the class if they arrive late, especially when held on the water. It is not the responsibility of the workshop facilitator to find late participants or save materials for them in the event of their absence at the beginning of class. Some workshops require physical activity such as walking, standing for long periods, and rowing. Please make sure you understand the level of strenuous activity and your own physical capabilities before registering for a workshop.
