Our Philosophy

In this day and age, there is an ever-pressing need to connect children to the natural world and art. Children spend less time outside, and have limited or nonexistent art instruction in the classroom. Outside Art Lessons strive to fill these learning gaps by introducing children to the beauty, wonder and functions of both nature and art through creation, observation and discovery.

Nature is an inspiring classroom for all ages, providing a peaceful environment which is conducive to creativity. It is an excellent sensorial muse by which the elements, principals and expressiveness of art can be exemplified.  The study of nature has been a constant in the development of artists, from the time of the Lascaux cave painters to the present. As the great painter Francisco Goya explained, “ I have had three masters, Nature, Velasquez, and Rembrandt.”

Art creation is a higher-level, analyzing, synthesizing and evaluative process that increases neural activity and intellectual growth in children. Outside Art uses this knowledge by introducing children to nature and a variety of art techniques, media, and styles; all the while encouraging each child to creatively express his/her own unique view of the world.

Our Outstanding Objectives

Students will demonstrate a higher understanding of art through the application of artistic techniques, art structures and art elements synthesized with his/her own perceptions of the natural world.

Students will gain, from their own inquisition and discovery, an understanding of the functions, interactions and structures of the natural world through observation, application of knowledge and artistic compilation.

Students will understand, identify and experience various cultural and historical approaches to artistic expressions of nature and nature itself.

Students will make valuable observations and conclusions as to the importance and functions of nature and art.

Students will make knowledgeable evaluations and conclusions regarding his or her own art and the art of others.
