Outside Art Guided Sketchbooks

Outside Art Sketchbooks allow young people to make amazing discoveries and connections about the natural world while creating art. While encouraging the attainment of many visual art and environmental education standards, these sketchbooks will inspire perceptual and creative growth, artistic development and a greater understanding of the natural world. The guided lessons in Outside Art Sketchbooks were carefully designed by North American Association for Environmental Education conference presenter and Teaching Artist, Dawn Malosh, B.S. Ed., to introduce children to the beauty, wonder and functions of both art and nature through observation, creation and discovery! Each sketchbook is ready for "plein air" drawing, packaged with a clip-board for durability and easy portability in outside environments.

Outside Art Sketchbooks are GREEN, made from mostly recycled and post-consumer materials. To reduce waste, they do not come with a binding, but can be three-hole punched upon request. It is suggested that teachers and parents encourage a creative, low-carbon, recycled, reused, and/or biodegradable binding solution, if you wish to take the sketchbooks off of the clip-boards. A few creative classes have come up with old telephone wire, old paper-clips and hand-braided fiber to bind their sketchbooks! You could also place them in a reused and student re-decorated three-ring binder. Sketchbooks do not come with the art supplies pictured above unless otherwise indicated.

These sketchbooks are designed to provide guided art activities and lessons that help connect children of all levels and capabilities to nature through art. A resourceful teacher is capable of using the sketchbooks with any age group. The concepts and terminology will be understood by students at their own cognitive level.
